Volkswagen Golf Service & Repair Manual: Removing and installing camshaft adjuster

Special tools for removing and installing the camshaft adjuster of exhaust camshaft
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
Support bracket -10 - 222 A-
Shackle -10 - 222 A /12-
Adapter -10 - 222 A /18-

Removing
Camshaft adjuster for exhaust camshaft
  Note
For removing the camshaft adjuster of the exhaust camshaft, you only need to detach the engine support and the lower toothed belt guard.
The bolts must be unscrewed far enough to enable this.
Then, the top part of engine support is swung away from the engine.
–  Detach engine support → Chapter.
–  Detach toothed belt from camshafts → Chapter.
Camshaft adjuster for inlet camshaft
–  Detach toothed belt from camshafts → Chapter.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

Before installing the camshaft adjuster, ensure that the guide sleeve is inserted in the camshaft.
Specified torques
→ Chapter „Assembly overview - assembly mountings“
→ Chapter „Assembly overview - poly V-belt drive“
→ Chapter „Assembly overview - toothed belt cover“
→ Chapter „Assembly overview - coolant pipes“
→ Electrical system; Rep. gr.27
Check adjustment of assembly mountings (engine and gearbox mountings) → Chapter
