Checking
Special tools and workshop equipment required
Vehicle diagnostic tester with current probe 100 A -VAS 5051B/7-
Test conditions
Intake temperature less than 19° C
Coolant temperature less than 80° C
Passenger compartment temperature about 20° C
Battery voltage greater than 11 V
Alternator load not greater than 50 % (terminal DF)
Engine speed greater than 450 rpm
Turn rotary knob for interior temperature to highest temperature (on vehicles with Climatronic select highest level).
Test procedure
–  Remove left centre console trim in footwell → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68.
   
–  Using vehicle diagnostic tester and current probe 100 A -VAS 5051B/7-, measure current draw -arrow- on earth wire -1- of auxiliary air heater element -Z35--2-.
Low heat output ≈ 30 amps
Medium heat output ≈ 60 amps
High heat output ≈ 80 amps
