Volkswagen Golf Service & Repair Manual: Towing attachment type plate

The trailer load and drawbar load details on the type plate of the towing attachment are test figures for the device. The approved details for the relevant vehicle could be below the trailer load and drawbar load specifications of the trailer. Figures can be found

that are specific to the vehicle.
The curb weight of the pulling vehicle is increased due to the towing attachment, which means the permissible load has to be reduced respectively.
   
Weight of vehicle and trailer combination
The weight of the vehicle and trailer combination comprises of the actual weight of the pulling vehicle and the actual weight of the trailer. The maximum permissible weights of the pulling vehicle and the trailer must not be exceeded. If the maximum permissible trailer load is utilised, under certain circumstances the weight of the pulling vehicle may have to be reduced accordingly.
