Volkswagen Golf Owners Manual: Switching the auxiliary heater on or off

First read and observe the introductory information and safety warnings

Switching on the auxiliary heater:  
Manually with the immediate heat button in the air conditioning controls. The indicator lamp in the button lights up.
Manually with the remote control key.
  Automatically with a programmed and activated departure time.
Switching off the auxiliary heater:  
Manually with the immediate heat button in the air conditioning controls. The indicator lamp in the button switches off.
Manually with the remote control key.
  Automatically when the programmed departure time is reached, or after the programmed operating period has elapsed.
  Automatically if the indicator lamp lights up (fuel level).
  Automatically if the charge level of the vehicle battery is too low.

Things to note

The auxiliary heater runs on for a short time after it is switched off so that the remaining fuel in the system can be burnt off. The exhaust gases in the system can also be emitted.
