Repairing steering rack

1 -  Right track rod ball joint
Marked with “A” → Anchor
Removing and installing → Chapter
Installation position → Anchor
Allocation → Electronic Parts Catalogue “ETKA”.
2 -  Nut
Counterhold on track rod ball joint with a spanner when loosening or tightening nut.
70 Nm
3 -  Clamp
4 -  Boot
Must not be twisted after toe setting has been adjusted.
Removing and installing → Chapter
5 -  Clamp
Renew
Tightening → Anchor
6 -  Track rod
Removing and installing → Chapter
100 Nm
7 -  Steering rack
Allocation → Electronic Parts Catalogue “ETKA”.
Removing and installing → Chapter
8 -  Left track rod ball joint
Marked with “B” → Anchor
Removing and installing → Chapter
Installation position → Anchor
Allocation → Electronic Parts Catalogue “ETKA”.
9 -  Nut
Counterhold on track rod ball joint with a spanner when loosening or tightening nut.
70 Nm
10 -  Spring-type clip
11 -  Boot
Removing and installing → Chapter
Check for damage
Must not be twisted after toe setting has been adjusted.
12 -  Clamp
Renew after removing
Secure new hose clip using locking pliers for Phaeton steering rack -VAS 6199-.
13 -  Track rod
If defective, renew together with track rod ball joint
Removing and installing → Chapter
100 Nm
Removing and installing track rod ball joint
