Volkswagen Golf Service & Repair Manual: Removing and installing exhaust system

Removing
Danger of severe burns from hot exhaust system. Burns to hands and other body parts possible.Allow exhaust system to cool.
–  Switch off electrical consumers.
–  Switch off auxiliary and supplementary heater and switch off ignition.
–  Remove front noise insulation → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.66.
–  Remove charge air hose (depending on engine version) → Rep. gr.21.
   
–  Unscrew securing nut -1- from exhaust system -2-.
–  Remove exhaust system -2- from stud secured by nut -1- in -direction of arrow A-.
–  Remove exhaust system -2- from heater unit in direction of arrow -B-.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing, note the following:
Specified torque
→ Chapter „Assembly overview - auxiliary heater attachments“
Nose insulation; Assembly overview - noise insulation → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.66.
Charge air system; Assembly overview - charge air system → Rep. gr.21.
