Removing
–  Remove knee airbag with igniter → Chapter.
–  Remove footwell vent on driver side → Heating, air conditioning; Rep. gr.87.
–  Remove data bus diagnostic interface -J533- → Electrical system; Rep. gr.97.

Installing
When removing crash bar on vehicles manufactured up to 11/2012, stick a felt strip as per → Electronic Parts Catalogue onto the replacement part (does not apply for LHD vehicles with automatic gearbox).
This is necessary because the clearance to the footwell vent is very small.

Removing and installing crash bar

–  On LHD vehicles with manual gearbox, attach felt strip -2- maintaining a distance of 7.5 mm -dimension a- to edge of crash bar -1-.
–  On RHD vehicles with manual or automatic gearbox, attach felt strip -4- flush with edge of crash bar -3-.

Removing and installing crash bar

Further installation is carried out in reverse order of removal. Observe the following:

–  Attach crash bar -2- on central tube -1--arrow- and bolt it on.
