Volkswagen Golf Service & Repair Manual: Removing and installing crash bar

Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331 |

Remove knee airbag with igniter
→ Chapter. |
– |
Remove footwell vent on driver side
→ Heating, air conditioning; Rep. gr.87. |
– |
Remove data bus diagnostic interface -J533-
→ Electrical system; Rep. gr.97. |
– |
Unscrew bolt -2-, detach crash
bar -1- and thread it out. |
When removing crash bar on vehicles manufactured up to
11/2012, stick a felt strip as per
→ Electronic Parts Catalogue onto the replacement
part (does not apply for LHD vehicles with automatic gearbox). |
This is necessary because the clearance to the footwell vent
is very small. |

On LHD vehicles with manual gearbox, attach felt strip
-2- maintaining a distance of 7.5 mm
-dimension a- to edge of crash bar
-1-. |

On RHD vehicles with manual or automatic gearbox, attach felt strip
-4- flush with edge of crash bar
-3-. |
Further installation is carried out in reverse order of
removal. Observe the following: |

Attach crash bar -2- on central
tube -1--arrow- and bolt it on. |

Note
If electrical wires are disconnected or removed and installed, it
is useful to make corresponding drawings or photos. This guarantees that
everything is re-installed in ...
